When holidays and birthdays arrived, a man discovered that buying elaborate gifts weren’t always important. During these times he would purchase expensive items for his wife and children thinking they would be impressed. He later discovered it wasn’t about buying expensive gifts. It was simple small things that mattered. This is certainly true about our Christian life. Instead of waiting for elaborate blessings from God we should be appreciative of the small ones.
On Mondays, my usual routine is to run errands after my devotion time. One Monday I prepared to leave but my car wouldn’t start. Was I frustrate? Certainly! My brother-in-law suggested jump starting the car and going to the auto parts store to purchase a battery, so this is what we did. I purchased the battery, they installed the battery, and I was able to complete my errands. This may not seem like much of a blessing but consider this: first of all my brother in law was available to take me to the auto parts store. Second I had the money to purchase the expensive battery. Third the employee at the auto parts store installed the battery for free. If these three things had not happen I would have had to wait until my wife made it home from work unable to complete my errands. You see,
God is a provider in so many ways. He provides in small ways as well as great ones. We have a tendency to think God’s blessings come only in large packages. Yet if God did not bless us in small ways we would not be able to function each day.
The next time you thank and praise God remember to be grateful for the small blessings. I suggest that you write them in your journal from time to time. They are a great source of encouragement for you and to share with others.
